Connecting the Water Resources Industry with Universities

Synergy Solutions have now dedicated many days to preparing and delivering lectures at Queensland University of Technology to hundreds of students in the civil engineering discipline. The lectures were recorded and also distributed to the University of Southern Qld to provide even further reach!!
Our Director’s hope is to better align university and the water resources industry to produce the water leaders of the future and ignite the passion early on that is so evident in many water professionals in the present.
Lecture one consisted of basics of urban stormwater design as well as an introduction to Water Sensitive Urban Design. It was great to see some of the students light up in the WSUD space and want to know more after the lecture.
Lecture two was “Future directions in water engineering” and was a really interesting look at the past, present and possible future practices in the water resources space. This included a look into flood modelling, floodplain management, flood forecasting and some of Synergy’s favourite areas of integrated water design and natural floodplain management.
On top of this, we also showed some masters students from the International Water Centre around two integrated water projects.
We are looking forward to continue to work with any academic organisations to help improve the passion and better equip students for a career in the water resources industry!!
